Lots to Report
It's time for a long-overdue update! The band is about to come out of hibernation and hit the ground running.
- Andrew King is Back
- Mike Fanning is our new Drummer
- Double Hamilton Music Award Nomination
Our sax player Andrew left to teach english in Korea for a year, and got back in September. During that time we managed to finish mixing and mastering and release our album in February, and in June we played our biggest gig yet at the Sound of Music festival in Burlington (sax courtesy of our friend Jeremy Geisbrecht.) Still, it's been a long damn year and we're thrilled to have Andrew back on the roster.
Our former drummer Nathan Cheng has moved on to pursue a PhD at U of T, studying... something to do with particles I believe. We had a great time playing with Nathan and wish him the best.
Our new drummer Mike Fanning is a Humber College school of Jazz grad, and just got off a world tour with his drum corps The Cadets (they placed fifth at the DCI world championships in Indianapolis, which Mike described as "disappointing.") He's settled down in the GTA and will be providing us with tight and ruthless rhythm for the foreseeable future. Seriously, you gotta see this guy.
Double HMA Nomination
And last but not least, just to prove we're back on the scene, as of today our album In Stereo has been nominated for two Hamilton Music Awards - Best Jazz Album and Best Instrumental Album! We'll be attending the awards on November 21st and we're really, really excited. Check out http://www.hamiltonmusicawards.com for more information.
That's it for now. Stay tuned for more frequent news and updates. It's good to be back!
